LSM students pitch R10 Farmers Market; Burlington EDC endorses project

LSM students, guided by Denis Fowler, an R10 teacher, presented a proposal for an R10 Farmers Market in Burlington that would run from June through October and asked the Burlington Economic Development Commission for the town’s support. The commission voted to endorse the project and to serve as a partner.
The students told the EDC they had support from Parks & Rec and from F.S. Doug Thompson. After a question-and-answer session and several suggestions from commissioners, Commissioner James Fisher moved to endorse the project and Commissioner Jack Deeb seconded; the motion was recorded as approved in the minutes. The EDC said it will send a formal endorsement and a kickoff letter to the Board of Selectmen.
According to the minutes, the students will plan and run the market under the supervision of Mr. Fowler and the EDC. The commission also agreed to help onboard rotating community organizations as partners and to list the event as a recurring agenda item under Project III: R10 Farmer’s Market.
The endorsement recorded in the minutes does not include a vote tally. The commission’s next meeting is scheduled for May 19, 2026, when the EDC may revisit logistics or related approvals with Town Hall or other departments.
