District staff: Ring Power ready for generator swap; insurance to cover $564,274 track resurfacing at Gadsden County High School

Mr. Hudson, a district staff member, said Ring Power completed due diligence and that the electrical contractor inspected infrastructure compatibility, adding that "everything is ready to be taken care of for the generator" pending Board approval.
Superintendent Elijah Key said the generator purchase will use FEMA funds and that when FEMA dollars are used the district must obtain "the exact same thing or something similar to it when purchasing," a constraint tied to federal disaster-recovery rules and the like-for-like replacement requirement.
On athletics facilities, Hudson said Rakuten provided a standard-state-contract estimate of $564,274.00 to resurface the track at Gadsden County High School. Board member Steve Scott questioned whether the work could have been competitively bid or whether another school’s track could be used in the interim. Key said insurance proceeds will pay for the resurfacing and that the funding is allocated to the high school; Hudson added he prepared an alternative funding option (#2) that he described as preferable.
Chairman Leroy McMillan said the district needs to consider investments that attract students and asked Board members to hold comments for the regular meeting because of time constraints. No construction contracts or formal approvals were taken during the workshop; facilities items are expected to be addressed at the regular meeting.
