Women's Club seeks vendor fair for Brookline's 250th; Fire Department plans June parade

At the Selectboard meeting on May 26, Michele Decoteau, speaking as a member of the Brookline Women's Club, said the group would like to stage a vendor fair as part of the town's 250th anniversary and will request $1,500 from the Celebrations Fund at the next meeting. The club is considering using the ball field and said it will reach out to the Recreation Commission and the Fire Department to confirm available sites. Decoteau also said the club is considering a street dance and possibly using a section of Main Street in front of Daniels Academy, though past attempts to secure state permission for closing Main Street were not successful.

Resident Brendan Denehy asked whether Daniels Academy would display traditional bunting for the 250th and raised concern about recent AI-generated images posted online that use the town seal; Denehy said three instances of AI-generated seals have appeared recently and that they are not the official Town seal. Selectboard members said the 250th committee has focused on key event dates and that larger regional events may draw attendance. Separately, Buddy Dougherty announced the Fire Department will hold a parade at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, beginning at South Main and Oak Hill and ending at Bond Street to celebrate the department's 200th anniversary.

The Selectboard did not act on the Celebrations Fund request on May 26; the Women's Club will present a funding request at a future meeting. The Town will need to coordinate permissions and site plans for events that use streets or town property.
