Administration recommends Grand Rapids Building Services for custodial contract

Haslett Public Schools administrators told the board on June 8 that a full competitive request for proposals (RFP) for custodial services produced 10 bids and four finalists. The RFP covered all district buildings—five schools plus ancillary and administrative facilities, about 500,000 square feet of cleanable area—and sought a three-year base term with two optional one-year renewals.
After written Q&A, reference checks, rubric scoring and finalist interviews, the administration recommended Grand Rapids Building Services (GRBS) as the best fit. Administrators said GRBS offered flat, predictable pricing for the three-year term, a robust training program, on-site supervision (including second-shift management during custodial peak hours) and a tested transition plan used in other Michigan districts.
A GRBS representative told the board the company has provided K–12 services in Michigan for roughly 25 years and emphasized its local management approach and quality-control practices. The administration presented this item for board information; the formal recommendation and board action are scheduled for the June 22 meeting’s consent agenda.
Board discussion was limited and focused on the evaluation process and next steps for transition if the board approves the recommendation.
