Tallahassee State College seeks to restore correctional officer dual-enrollment at Gadsden high school

Representatives of the Florida Public Safety Institute at Tallahassee State College asked the school board to allow a correctional officer dual-enrollment pathway to return to the high school.
Janet Hartman described the program’s structure and eligibility: the pathway would be offered as afternoon dual enrollment for seniors; students must hold at least a 2.0 grade-point average and must be 18 to qualify for certification and firearm training. Hartman introduced Tallahassee State staff and alumni who support student recruitment and mentoring, and said the program has the backing of the county sheriff and the Florida Department of Corrections.
Board Chair Leroy McMillan thanked Hartman and said the district would rely on program alumni to encourage student participation. No formal vote or agreement was recorded at the meeting; program details and any memorandum of understanding would return to the board for approval as needed.
