County officials and Family Arena management briefed the St. Charles County Council on May 26 about the arena's operations, recent capital improvements and prospects for naming rights.
Assistant Director of Administration Bob Schnur introduced General Manager Sandra Femmer and Booking Manager Bob O'Keefe. Femmer said the Family Arena, which opened in 1999, operates as a multipurpose venue hosting concerts, sporting events, the Ambush MASL team, graduations, rodeos, circuses and community gatherings, and typically draws more than 300,000 visitors annually. "The arena is an asset that generates economic activity, supports county operations and brings residents together," O'Keefe said.
Schnur reviewed recent capital investments — lower‑bowl seating replacement, updated video and ribbon boards, HVAC replacement, a new main roof skin, parking‑lot paving, public Wi‑Fi and upgraded communications — noting about $14 million in improvements over recent years, of which the county's direct share was roughly $3 million. Future work described by staff includes addressing water intrusion, adding spotlights and installing a video wall. Schnur also said two solid proposals for naming rights were under review and a recommendation would be provided to the council when available.
Arena management said it employs 15 full‑time staff, operates a catering department and rents a large parking area; O'Keefe described marketing and booking strategies used to compete with national promoters. A copy of the presentation was placed on file with the county registrar.
The presentation was informational; the council did not take action on naming rights at the May 26 meeting.
