Council approves emergency HVAC replacement and sanitation vehicle repair, with budget amendments

Staff reported two failed HVAC units at the government center. Four vendors submitted bids; the recommended vendor, Ben Air Conditioning, submitted a two-unit replacement bid at $52,150 (including local-preference considerations). Council approved the emergency procurement and the necessary budget amendment to cover the roughly $25,150 shortfall beyond the budgeted $27,000.
Separately, sanitation staff requested a transmission replacement for vehicle #2 (2018 Mack), presented as out of service. The vendor estimate for the replacement was presented as $34,727 for the transmission plus other necessary repairs noted in the packet; council approved the repairs and associated budget amendment. Staff noted auction receipts from retired vehicles that will offset some cost.
Council members said emergency procurement rules and warranties were considered and moved the motions to proceed; votes on both items were recorded as unanimous.
