The Lake Placid Town Council authorized staff to issue a 30-day Request for Interest (RFI) for the town-owned Dale Hall building and adjacent playground at 151 Dale Hall Boulevard, a property considered for use by the Boys & Girls Club and other community organizations.
Janice Rear, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Highlands County, told council the building is suitable for a clubhouse and that the fire marshal had approved occupancy up to 65 people. Council members debated whether the town should market the building for sale and use proceeds for playground improvements or pursue a lease/partnership that would generate revenue to cover operating costs. Several council members said they preferred responses that included a revenue stream or cost-sharing to avoid the town bearing all maintenance costs.
Staff said the RFI was drafted by legal and would be open for roughly 30 days; council discussed timing to align review with July and early August meetings so a summary of responses could be provided for council consideration. The motion to authorize the RFI passed unanimously. Council members noted that any specific lease or sale decision would return to the full council for action.
