The Emery County Commission authorized the sheriff’s office to prepare a bid to serve as the dispatch center for the newly organized North Valley Police Department (a consolidation of Fairview, Moroni, Fountain Green, Green and Mount Pleasant police services).
The sheriff said an analysis of calls shows Emery County could cover the additional workload by adding one dispatcher and adjusting shifts; staff noted the shift would require training and some schedule changes. The county could eventually receive a portion of the 911 funds currently routed to Sanpete County; the sheriff estimated the combined jurisdictions currently generate slightly more than $100,000 per year in 911 revenue but advised commissioners not to count on that money in the first three years.
Commissioners approved starting the bid process to see whether the North Valley organization will contract with Emery County for dispatch services.
