Board approves three-year County Engineer contract, accepts retirement and advances Hamlin Feedmill Road project

The Audubon County Board of Supervisors on Feb. 25 accepted the retirement of Larry Sorensen and approved a three-year County Engineer contract for Mitch Rydl, effective July 2025.
The board reviewed contract revisions and authorized the contract covering July 2025 onward; the minutes note Rydl will stop serving as Planning & Zoning Administrator as of July 2025. Supervisors also approved final plans, notice to bidders, proposal and specifications for project RC-C005(79)—9A-05 (Hamlin Feedmill Road/Lark Ave). The project was described as funded 50% by RISE and 50% by Urban Renewal/TIF funds, to be completed in five separate stages over 75 working days (motion Mosinski/Grabill; vote all in favor).
Engineer Rydl told supervisors the Purina Road bridge bump can be temporarily smoothed with cold patching but that moisture under the structure likely requires installing a drain or tile. Rydl also discussed equipment needs including motor graders as part of longer-term road maintenance planning.
The meeting record shows motions accepting Sorensen’s retirement and approving Rydl’s contract were passed unanimously.
