Board approves claims and MMPS updates, reviews insurance renewals and FY26 levy considerations

On Feb. 18 the Audubon County Board approved claims and routine administrative items, received an insurance renewal briefing and discussed FY26 levy and budget timing.
The board approved claims totaling $46,916.29 (motion by Kent Grabill; second by Don Mosinski) and later approved additional claims of $6,504.90 (same mover/second); both motions passed unanimously. The board also accepted and filed the Clerk of Court’s fees collected for January 2025.
Supervisors approved annual MMPS updates for a list of named permit/license records (motion passed unanimously). Dave Lake and Megan Nielsen from Community Insurance summarized drivers for FY26 workers’ compensation renewals and discussed county cyber liability coverage; IT Director Ben Linde reviewed the application and said current cyber coverage appeared adequate, though Community Insurance asked staff to re‑check the application to obtain quotes for higher limits.
Auditor Lisa Frederiksen walked supervisors through levy-rate spreadsheets, emphasized maintaining at least a 30% balance in General/Rural Basic and Supplemental reserves, and discussed options including moving FICA/IPERS for Roadside and IT into General Supplemental to reduce the rural supplemental levy. Frederiksen reminded the board the FY26 budget notice must be filed by the March 4 meeting if the board delays action.
