Audubon County approves Brayton road project plans, IDOT permit; $534,000 estimate

Audubon County supervisors on Feb. 18 approved final plans and an IDOT right-of-way permit for Project No. LFM-(F65 Brayton)—7X-05, the county engineer said, clearing the way for a likely April 8 letting and construction during July through September.
Engineer Mitch Rydl presented the project details and estimated total cost at about $534,000. Rydl told the board the City of Brayton will be responsible for a $100,000 portion of the project, though supervisors deferred an exact cost-splitting decision to a later meeting. Rydl also advised the city to explore the county’s bridge‑funding list for a future South Street bridge project; any bridge funding would require an 80/20 split with the city paying 20 percent and counsel consultation was recommended.
The board approved the IDOT permit for work in state highway right-of-way on Hwy. 71/County Road F65 (motion by Don Mosinski; second by Kent Grabill) and then approved the final plans, notice to bidders, proposal and specifications for Project No. LFM-(F65 Brayton)—7X-05 (same motion/second). Both votes were unanimous.
The Brayton representatives said roadside trees adjacent to the project area posed safety concerns; Rydl will coordinate with the Roadside Manager to remove hazardous trees and Brayton agreed the removed material may be placed in the city’s burn pile.
The action moves the project into the bidding phase; supervisors said they will return to the question of how the $100,000 local share will be allocated at an upcoming meeting.
