Ashwaubenon board approves exchange trip, early-college enrollments, discontinues Care Solace and adopts tech budget

The Ashwaubenon School District Board approved several routine and programmatic items at its March 11 meeting, including a student exchange trip, early-college enrollment requests, the discontinuation of a third-party mental-health navigation contract, and a five-year technology budget.
Annika Manuel, the district’s GAPP program advisor, presented the Summer 2026 GAPP exchange: 12 students will travel June 1–June 30, 2026, at an approximate cost of $4,000 per student; German partner students will visit Sept. 18–Oct. 10, 2026. The board approved the trip (motion moved by Garrigan; seconded by VandeWalle).
Dirk Ribbens presented Fall 2026 requests for college-credit programs: 30 students requested Start College Now enrollment and 8 requested Early College Credit. The board approved those enrollment requests as presented.
Tammy Nicholson reviewed three years of district use of Care Solace, a third-party service. Nicholson said “the usage does not justify the overall cost of the program and she is recommending the District discontinue this program for the 26-27 school year,” adding that Brown County is providing services and district social workers can help students access supports at no cost to the district. The board voted 4–0 to discontinue Care Solace for 2026–27.
Scott Truskowski presented the five-year technology plan and the 2026–27 technology budget, which he said totals about $672,400 for infrastructure, internet, hardware and services. Truskowski noted the district has saved more than $650,000 in E-Rate reimbursements over the past decade and said the district will continue to use the federal E-Rate program despite unspecified litigation that could affect reimbursements. The board approved the technology budget.
The board also approved a second read of multiple bylaw and policy updates intended to align district policy with current law and best practices; policy 5135 was discussed and staff confirmed current student IDs contain the information specified in the proposed update.
