Superintendent outlines grading changes, staff engagement work and a retiring school resource officer

Superintendent Andy Bake reported on mid‑year priorities at the Jan. 14 meeting, including staff engagement efforts and progress on standards‑based instructional and grading practices. He said December staff surveys identified two focus areas: more regular feedback and more meaningful, personalized professional development; the district will return the StrongerTogether mini‑conference in February with staff‑selected breakout sessions.

Bake said Parkview Middle School will transition to full standards‑based grading in fall 2026, aligning the Parkview scale to the 1–4 grading scale already used in elementary grades. He said Ashwaubenon High School has taken a more measured approach: it will not transition to a 1–4 scale but will move to a new grading scale next fall aligned to a 90/80/70/60 pattern and will explore weighted grades, GPA and class‑rank practices over time.

Bake acknowledged School Resource Officer Dunlap on her retirement after 10 years of service, noting her leadership of DARE, the bike rodeo and relationship building with students and families. "Her calm, approachable way of engaging with others has served our district incredibly well and she will be missed," he said.

Bake also noted board developments: Board Member Brian VanDeKreeke will not seek re‑election this spring after 15 years of service; Jennie Vyskocil and Scott Kirst have agreed to run for the two open school board seats in April. The board observed January as National School Board Appreciation Month and Bake thanked members for their service.
