Planning board approves vacation of 10-foot alley behind 2907 E. Blount Street

The City of Pensacola Planning Board on April 14 endorsed a request to vacate the remaining 10-foot portion of an alley directly behind 2907 East Blount Street.
Staff member Greg Harding presented the item and said the city previously vacated most of the alley in 2020 but left the 10-foot segment because the property was then abandoned. Matthew Monti, who identified himself as the new owner and applicant, told the board he and his wife bought the lot, removed a derelict structure and want to incorporate the alley segment so they can maintain and improve the property.
Staff told the board that all utility providers reviewed the request and raised no objections, and that a utility easement will be retained across the vacated portion. The board’s motion to approve the vacation passed unanimously; the board’s action now moves to City Council for the standard two readings.
The board’s approval was procedural and did not change utility easements or access rights, staff emphasized. The planning board explained that traffic, stormwater and other infrastructure concerns are not within the board’s aesthetic-review jurisdiction and that Public Works had reviewed the project as a courtesy.
The board did not record any conditions beyond retaining the utility easement and forwarding the action to council. The applicant may pursue the council process required to finalize the alley vacation.
