Daniels County commissioners approve wage increases, audit contract and pursue capital improvement plan

The board unanimously approved Resolution 2025-8, adopting a 76-cent increase in pay for elected officials after a motion and second (resolution announced as approved by voice vote). Commissioners also voted to grant all hourly county employees a 76-cent raise and to review compensation practices going forward.
The board approved a multi-year standard audit contract (estimated in discussion at about $38,000–$41,000 per year in tiered rates) and directed staff to execute the agreement. Commissioners also moved to send a support letter for tribal grant funding to improve Highway 13; the motion was seconded and approved.
On capital planning, the board authorized pursuing a capital improvements plan (CIP) through a grant-funded planning process and authorized a task order with Interstate Engineering to prepare the CIP and associated grant applications. The commissioners discussed applying for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) planning funds to cover CIP development and directed staff to proceed with the grant application process.
Routine business completed included approval of claims and journal vouchers.
What happens next: staff will prepare and execute the audit contract, draft the support letter for the highway grant, and work with Interstate Engineering on a CIP grant application and scope. The board said it will continue to review compensation issues and departmental budgets in coming meetings.
