Ashwaubenon board adopts bylaw and policy updates after questions about staff-transport language

The Ashwaubenon School District Board on April 8 approved updates to board bylaws and district policies that reflect recent changes in state law affecting staff transport of students.

Superintendent Andy Bake presented the changes as a first read in March and returned the revised language for a second read and approval in April. Board members questioned whether staff understand how the policy applies when they transport neighbors’ or friends’ children, and whether the district has any flexibility given the new state law. "When finalized, the policies will be shared with staff through professional development," Bake said, and he added the District may have limited flexibility because the wording traces back to state requirements.

Board members pressed for clarity during the first-read discussion, seeking assurance that normal carpooling among neighbors would be understood by staff and families. No modifications were made during the second reading; the board approved the updates unanimously, 5–0.

The updates will be incorporated into the district policy manual and staff training materials.
