CRA approves docking-fee waiver for historic tall ship Alyssa; free public deck tours planned

The CRA approved a docking-fee waiver for the tall ship Alyssa as part of a community engagement schedule for Memorial Day weekend.
Representatives from the Galveston Historical Foundation joined by Teams and asked the CRA to waive docking fees so the 1877 Alyssa could visit Pensacola as the first stop on a multi-port America250 voyage. Will Wright, chief creative officer for the Galveston Historical Foundation, said the ships visit will include free public deck tours and educational programming and emphasized the vessels rarity and heritage value.
"We are looking to do public deck tours, which are free to the public on Saturday and Sunday, Saturday from noon till 5 and Sunday from 9 in the morning till 5PM," Wright said. Wright and colleagues said they would coordinate marketing and outreach locally and that organizers had received strong response while working with local permitting offices.
The board voted 5-0 to approve the fee waiver for Plaza De Luna for May 22'25 in support of the public engagement activities; staff said the event will join previously approved tall-ship activity over the Memorial Day weekend.
Ending: Staff and the presenters confirmed logistics and the board expressed appreciation for the free public tours.
