Council advances three land-use ordinances, including Planet Fitness site plan and Drury intensity bonus

Florence City Council on Monday advanced three land-use measures in first readings and routine votes, moving each to the next step with unanimous roll-call approvals.
Ordinance O-12-2026 proposed a change of concept development plan for roughly 2.53 acres at 7544 Burlington Pike to allow Bluegrass Backyard Recreations LLC to display and sell outdoor furniture, sheds and play sets. Council members said display areas will be confined behind fencing and noted the site is where the Bark Park and Patio used to be. The motion to approve the ordinance reading passed 5-0.
Ordinance O-13-2026 concerns a Drury project: staff explained that conveying a half-acre off the Drury lot to an outlot would raise the previously approved building intensity bonus from "27.2% to 42.3%"; staff also noted that building intensity bonuses can only be approved by the legislative body. Council approved the first reading 5-0.
Ordinance O-14-2026 would permit a two-story, approximately 33,000-square-foot Planet Fitness on about 3.9 acres along the south side of Cavalry Drive. Staff said the site would provide 233 parking spaces, add landscaping and a parapet to screen mechanical equipment from adjacent houses, and would not replace the city's existing Mall Road Planet Fitness. Council approved the reading 5-0.
