Assumption Parish Police Jury approves drainage projects, personnel changes and funding for health and safety programs

The Assumption Parish Police Jury on May 27 unanimously approved a package of administrative and infrastructure measures, authorizing tax and contractual steps for drainage projects, adopting personnel-policy changes, and advancing contracts for health and safety maintenance.
Police Jury President Jeff Naquin said the Drainage Committee recommended authorizing the President to sign a Tax Exemption Certificate for the Marais Area Drainage Improvements Project and a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement with Beau Naquin for a driveway culvert; both authorizations were approved by the full jury. The jury also approved a culvert replacement at 109 Greenbriar Street (Ward 1) at a total cost of $2,736 and a parish-labor outfall cleaning on College Point Lane at $800.
The jury confirmed multiple five-year reappointments across local drainage districts, including LJ Breaux (Pierre Part Settlement Gravity Drainage District), Corey Crochet (Bayou Pierre Part North Drainage District), and several members to the Pierre Part/Belle River Consolidated and Lower Belle River districts.
On engineering and grant matters, the jury approved a contract with GFP Architecture not to exceed $14,240 to add construction administration services for Health Unit repairs. The jury also authorized the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (OHSEP) Director to transfer State Homeland Security Program grant funds to South Central Planning for regional equipment purchases and approved use of Communities Readiness Initiative (CRI) funds to contract with CINTAS for automatic defibrillators in six parish buildings at an annual cost of $9,700.
Finance actions included approval to pay the list of bills through May 22 and acceptance of the April 2026 budget comparison statements. The jury approved an agreement with AAR Electronics to combine annual fire alarm inspections and recertifications at no extra cost, and authorized a polling-place lease with the Community Worship Center following the Ag Center move.
Several committee reports (Drainage; Road & Bridge; Personnel; Finance; Engineering/Grants) were accepted unanimously during the regular session. The jury also adopted ordinance 26-06 to levy grass-cutting charges totaling $455.35 and called for a public hearing to consider an ordinance governing sales of adjudicated property.
