ABE urges native‑species focus, reevaluation and erosion planning for proposed agritourism campground

The Park County Advisory Board of the Environment took up A26-0021 at the May 12 meeting, a Conditional Use Permit application proposing a commercial campground with four year‑round cabins and six seasonal bell tents as an agritourism operation.
ABE said it had several environmental and wildlife concerns, emphasizing the applicant’s stated intention to introduce plant and animal species that are not native to Colorado or the immediate area. The board recommended the applicant prioritize using plant and animal species native to Colorado to avoid negative impacts to existing ecosystems.
ABE also noted that the planning process had not been completed, and that the actual locations of planned structures, utilities and parking may change as wetland and floodplain areas are further identified. The board recommended proper erosion mitigation where required and asked to re‑evaluate the application after more detailed planning is complete.
The board relied on CODEX as a preliminary screening tool and reiterated that CODEX does not replace a professional field survey.
