ABE hears CODEX demo, hears rail‑society update and notes bylaws revision

At the April 14 meeting the Advisory Board of the Environment received multiple informational items: a South Park Rail Society update, an online demonstration of the Colorado Conservation Data Explorer (CODEX) and a report that the ABE bylaws were revised and approved by the Board of County Commissioners.
Mr. Reiber reported that he spoke with the South Park Rail Society president and that the group is moving forward with recommendations; he said there were no Army Corps of Engineers issues reported regarding the trestle and that Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) feedback is still pending.
Amie Huffman presented an online demonstration of CODEX, an integrated screening tool that queries multiple conservation datasets and synthesizes Colorado Natural Heritage Program and Colorado Parks and Wildlife information to help identify sensitive species, wetlands and natural communities. Huffman emphasized that CODEX is a preliminary screening tool and not a substitute for a biologist’s field survey; she also cautioned that data sources vary in precision and that some local interpretation may be required.
Mr. Reiber reported that the ABE‑approved bylaws underwent another revision and that the Park County Board of County Commissioners approved the revised version at a work session held the same day.
The ABE did not take formal action on these informational items; staff and interested parties were invited to follow up as appropriate.
