The Kewanee City Council on May 26 approved a resolution (Bill 26-44) authorizing the City Manager to execute an agreement with the Henry County Humane Society to maintain and operate the city’s animal-control facility.
Staff told the council that contracting out operations is less expensive than city-run operation. The resolution as described in the meeting minutes is for one year with two optional one-year renewals; any requests for pay increases would be handled at each renewal. Councilmember Komnick moved to approve the resolution, Councilmember Colomer seconded, and the motion passed 5-0.
City staff will execute the agreement and will bring any proposed pay changes back to the council at the time of contract renewal.
