Commissioners honor local World War II veterans, accept historical service award and proclaim Juneteenth observance

Jesse Davis, president and founder of Historic Sacred Spaces in Jefferson County, and family members attended and spoke about the women’s service and an upcoming community film showing and ceremony.
The court also approved a proclamation designating June 19–20, 2026, as Juneteenth observances in Chambers County after a presentation by Dr. Iraeneck, who identified herself as secretary of a Junth organization. The proclamation referenced the national recognition of Juneteenth and local planned events at George Washington Carver Park.
Separately, the court accepted a Texas Historical Commission Distinguished Service Award recognizing local cemetery preservation efforts. Commissioners posed for photographs with family members and event organizers following passage of the resolutions and proclamations.
These items were presented as ceremonial recognitions; the court approved each by routine motion and voice vote.
