North Marion SD 15 wins competitive summer-school grant of more than $400,000 per year for three years

District operations staff announced that North Marion SD 15 was awarded a competitive summer-school grant totaling more than $400,000 for the upcoming summer and that the award will continue annually for the next three years.
"We were selected, which was fantastic," the district operations presenter said, adding that the amount awarded "was over $400,000 for summer school, we will get it every year for the next three years." The funding will allow the district to plan summer-school programming earlier in the year rather than scrambling near the start of school.
The district plans to run literacy-focused summer programs at the primary, intermediate and middle schools, serving about 802790 students across sites. Programs will run three weeks, Monday27s through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and include transportation and breakfast and lunch. About 20 students at each building will be directly invited because of literacy concerns; remaining slots will be offered first-come, first-served.
The district will integrate migrant services and partner with the Woodburn Library for enrichment and mobile library services. Staff said the grant is intended to be self-contained and not draw on general-fund resources, though they may seek additional SR (special program) dollars for extra instructional assistance if needed.
