Mechanicsburg police report rise in complaints, note scooter and graffiti issues; fire department schedules station walkthrough

Mechanicsburg Police Chief Glenny reported rising activity and enforcement needs during the April 21 meeting, saying the department handled 310 complaints in March and that traffic enforcement has been significant. He identified electric scooters, minibikes and electric vehicles as ongoing issues and said the department is working with the Mechanicsburg School District on pedestrian-safety education.
Chief Glenny also noted an uptick in graffiti and encouraged residents to use the department’s Crimewatch site to help identify perpetrators. Lieutenant Curtis provided an update on the police accreditation process for the department at the Local Traffic Advisory Committee meeting; Vice President Ron O’Neil praised citizen members’ dedication to traffic and pedestrian recommendations.
Mechanicsburg Volunteer Fire Department Chief Trace reported 131 calls through March and projected roughly 500 calls for the year. Chief Trace said an apparatus previously described as a truck has been reclassified as a tower and that a walkthrough of the new fire station is scheduled for May 7.
The council received these departmental updates as informational reports; no formal council actions were taken on these public-safety items during the session.
