Board asks staff for training on land code changes; staff announces rezoning meetings

Board members asked staff to develop a training series on recent changes to the land development code and on best-practice deliberation for quasi‑judicial hearings, and staff agreed to schedule training either as study sessions or immediately before or after regular meetings.

Board member Frey White said targeted training would help the board during deliberations on land‑use cases: "...it'd be very important, as well as examples of what things that we should be listening to, just general best practices for the board of adjustment." Deputy Director Heather Vidlock said staff could provide the requested sessions and the city attorney's office also offered additional training support.

Separately, Vidlock updated the board on the city's legislative rezoning to enact the 2025 Land Development Code. She said the city is in phase 2 (core city), noted an earlier northern-area phase this year, and announced two public meetings: a virtual session on June 18 and an in-person meeting at Eagle Point Rec Center on June 24; staff also pointed listeners to a dedicated website for more information.

Clerk's office staff (Frank) closed staff business with a brief rundown of June community events, including Music in the Park and a Juneteenth celebration, and offered to provide follow-up details on request.

Next steps: Staff will coordinate with the city attorney and schedule training sessions for the board; staff will also proceed with public outreach for the legislative rezoning according to the announced schedule.
