Fox River Grove rejects bids for RBC replacement after estimates exceeded $1.72 million

The Fox River Grove Village Board voted unanimously on Aug. 2 to reject all bids for a rotating biological contactor (RBC) replacement project after bids exceeded the village’s budget estimate and did not include required cover replacements.
Administrator Soderholm told the board the project was estimated at $1,720,000 but the received bids were higher than anticipated and did not include costs for cover replacements. He also noted that of the two manufacturers that supply the media equipment only one was able to participate in the current bid process, which concerned staff and the board.
Trustee Knar moved to reject all bids and Trustee Schladt seconded. A roll call vote recorded Trustees Curtiss, Knar, Migdal, Schladt, Sepeczi and Wall as voting “yes,” and the motion passed.
Soderholm said postponing the purchase and rebidding later might produce lower overall costs and allow participation by the second media manufacturer; the board directed staff to consider rebidding in a future cycle.
The board did not approve a contract at the meeting and will revisit the project after staff returns with updated scheduling and cost information.
