Fox River Grove board approves award of Well #6 contract to Cahoy Group after budget questions

The Village of Fox River Grove Board of Trustees approved awarding the construction contract for Well #6 to Cahoy Group following questions about financing and differences between competing bids.

At the July 5 meeting, Trustee Steve Knar asked whether the village has the cash flow to fund the Well #6 project and whether a budget amendment would be necessary. Administrator Soderholm responded that a budget amendment ‘‘may need to happen’’ but said there were other considerations that could allow the village to proceed without one. Trustees also discussed the planned location for the new well and project details.

Trustee Melissa Schladt asked why one submitted bid was substantially lower than the other. Administrator Soderholm said multiple factors can drive bid variation, including a company’s differing need for work at the time of bidding. After discussion, Trustee Patrick Wall moved to approve the award to Cahoy Group; Trustee Steve Knar seconded. A roll-call vote recorded affirmative votes from Trustees Curtiss, Knar, Migdal, Schladt, Sepeczi and Wall and the motion passed.

The board’s formal action approves the vendor selection; the meeting record notes only that a budget amendment ‘‘may’’ be necessary, not that one has been adopted. No dollar amount for the contract or budget-line details were specified in the meeting minutes.

Next steps: staff and the village administrator will proceed with contract finalization and will address any required budget adjustments or financing arrangements in follow-up actions.
