"I'm here today to propose a 10 an hour community service graduation requirement," Naomi told the board, describing more than 70 hours she spent organizing a day that she said involved approximately 300–400 students in about 25 projects, from road cleanups to assisting the humane society.
Administrators said a required 10‑hour minimum would be attainable (service day alone could yield roughly three hours annually), but they flagged implementation questions such as how to document hours, accommodate students who transfer in late, and provide exceptions for medical or other hardships. Board members asked whether students could begin accruing hours as freshmen and discussed verification and potential misuse scenarios.
The board voted unanimously to give administrators permission to research policy language and exceptions, and to return with a draft for future consideration. Administrators said any formal graduation‑requirement change would proceed through a policy process and later board action.
