Board adopts proclamations, approves minutes, surplus sale and several routine items

At its April 28 meeting the Sumter County Board of County Commissioners adopted three proclamations, approved routine minutes and took a series of unanimous votes on contracts and other items.
Proclamations: The board proclaimed April 26–May 2, 2026 as National Apprenticeship Appreciation Week, May 4–8, 2026 as Economic Development Week, and May 8, 2026 as Childcare Provider Appreciation Day, and named local recipients to accept the honors.
Minutes and routine approvals: The board approved three sets of minutes and approved financial and contract items after no commissioners pulled items for further discussion. Under contracts and agreements the board accepted an offer from Mr. Cassidy for surplus parcel J04E006 (948 County Road 461, Lake Panasoffkee) in the amount of $6,200, after a higher offer had been withdrawn. The board also set a public hearing for May 12, 2026 at 6 p.m. to consider establishing a Tourist Development Council and voted to advertise for applications. Several general items — including a resolution to name the tax collector’s office in Bushnell after a predecessor — were also approved unanimously.
All routine business on the agenda was approved by voice vote with no recorded dissents.
