Board delays facility-use fee changes, asks staff to return with revised schedule
Summary
After extended debate about rental rates and key assignment procedures, the Liberty Elementary District board voted to continue current facility-use fees and asked staff to return with a revised fee schedule at the July 14 meeting (or possibly June 22 special meeting).

Board members questioned whether proposed facility rental fee increases reflected actual operating costs — including custodial time, summer deep-clean fees and utility usage — and voted to continue the current fee schedule while staff develops revised language for return at the July 14 meeting. The motion to table and continue existing fees until a new handbook is adopted passed during the June 8 meeting.
Board member Miss Zimmerman raised the practical problem that a $5-per-hour classroom rental would not cover custodial costs, saying a single-classroom rental minimum could leave the district paying more for cleaning than it receives: "If we rent one classroom for a class and it's $5 per hour, we're not even covering the cost of the cleaning," she said. She also sought clearer rules about who receives keys and how playground use is supervised by renters.
Administration said the contract is written to allow renters to choose paid custodial service or clean themselves; for regular, long-term renters the district sometimes issues keys but prefers generic accounts-payable contact information on vendor contracts to avoid confusion when staff change. Regarding timing, staff told the board that some summer rentals are already in place and recommended an approach that preserves current fees until the board adopts a new handbook.
After an amendment to table item 5.6 while continuing the current handbook fees until a new handbook is adopted at a subsequent meeting, the board voted in favor of tabling and returning the item. The board directed staff to consult finance and bring a revised facility-use agreement and fee schedule back by July 14, and noted a special meeting on June 22 could accelerate review if staff can meet that timeline.
