The Saginaw Planning & Zoning Commission discussed continuing education options and agreed to pursue an in-house, one-day workshop while still offering travel to the North Central Texas Council of Governments’ July 9–10 training in Arlington for those who can attend.
At the meeting commissioners noted the benefits of a classroom-style session tailored to the city’s needs and everyday P&Z scenarios. The chair said the in-house option would allow the commission to review “real world examples of things” and to accommodate members’ schedules. Staff told the commission the COG event runs 9 a.m.–4 p.m. and that the city would cover registration costs for anyone who chooses to attend.
Commissioners asked that staff coordinate with the outsourced planner to identify suitable dates (including a September option) so newly appointed members can participate. The commission asked staff to email three proposed dates so members can reply promptly in order to secure an outside trainer.
The chair closed the business item after the commission reached consensus to host local training and to permit individual attendance at the regional COG workshop for those who prefer it.
