Garden City Library board approves $181,395 next step for lower-level renovation and sole-source McNaughton subscription

The Garden City Public Library Board of Trustees on May 11 approved two vendor-related items: a $181,395 proposal from H2M for the next phase of a lower-level renovation and a sole-source McNaughton subscription agreement with Brodart Company at an initial annual cost of $20,000.

Trustee Mary Maguire moved approval of both items and Trustee Paul O’Grady seconded; the board recorded unanimous approval on each motion. The H2M authorization is expressly contingent on the review and approval of Village Counsel before the work proceeds.

Library Director Marianne Malagon and Operations Director Courtney Rutt Rosenblatt presented the proposals and the associated budget context to trustees. The H2M phase was presented as the next step in a multi-phase renovation of the library’s lower level; the board did not adopt construction documents at the meeting and conditioned authorization on counsel review. The Brodart sole-source vote covers McNaughton subscription services for leased titles at an initial annual subscription cost of $20,000.

Board members did not express dissent during the roll calls, and motions passed by voice vote. The approvals leave a counsel review step for the renovation contract and do not finalize construction start dates or change orders.

The board is scheduled to reconvene on June 8, 2026. Any additional contractual steps or scheduling decisions for the renovation will be subject to the Village Counsel review noted at the May 11 meeting.
