Golden Isle board directs manager to seek consultant support and ask Stantec for undergrounding update

The Golden Isle Safe Neighborhood Board of Directors voted 5–0 on March 18 to direct the city manager to pursue consultant support and to request an updated presentation from Stantec on undergrounding and recent master-plan revisions.
Chair Sherry Cooper made the motion, saying the board needs clear figures and planning to prioritize undergrounding "with FP and L" and to understand what the work would look like and cost. "I'd like to make a motion that we have Stantec come in and put a presentation up as to where we are at with the master plan, the most recent reiterations, as well as where they're at with undergrounding and talk about the funding of undergrounding," Cooper said.
City Manager Dr. Earl told the board staff needs explicit direction before moving forward. "I am here just to, whatever direction you all want regarding the underground," Dr. Earl said, adding that staff needs clarity on whether undergrounding is a new priority or should continue as part of existing master-plan work.
One director said that Stantec had reported back to homeowners that the cost of undergrounding "was significantly lower than what anybody had understood," but several board members said they had not seen that follow-up and requested a formal Stantec presentation to align the board and review funding scenarios. The director urged Stantec to share updates by email if possible before the next meeting.
The clerk confirmed that the motion received a second (noted in the record as by Director Butler) and announced the vote carried 5–0. The board asked staff to gather cost estimates, timelines and potential funding streams to support a practical decision on whether and how to move undergrounding projects forward for the neighborhood and along Lane Boulevard.
At the close of the meeting a director also asked the chief to explore fire engines with a tighter turning radius to match potential roadway configurations; the chair noted that vehicle footprints and negotiations would affect that work. The meeting then was adjourned.
