Hallandale Beach proclaims Muslim Heritage, names imam for community recognition

The proclamation noted Ramadan's emphasis on fasting, prayer, reflection and charitable giving and named Imam Sergi Ahmed as a newly appointed spiritual leader whose role "represents an important milestone for the mosque," according to the proclamation language read by the mayor.
A representative of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community addressed the commission to express gratitude for the recognition and to stress the community's commitment to the United States and to peaceful coexistence. The representative said the community has members across the world and emphasized service and harmony: "We are at peace. We are in love with all of you and we respect all," he said.
Commissioner Todd thanked the community representative for the invitation to the community's Ramadan dinner and the exchange concluded with brief acknowledgements before the meeting continued.
