Brian Head council adopts interlocal agreement extending Redevelopment Agency; county reduces contribution

The Brian Head Town Council on May 12 adopted Resolution No. 26-574 extending the interlocal agreement that governs the Brian Head Redevelopment Agency (RDA), with the county agreeing to extend participation for ten years while seeking to reduce its contribution level.
Town Manager Bret Howser reviewed background on the RDA, telling the council that Iron County approved its portion of the interlocal earlier that morning and was willing to extend participation for ten more years but requested a reduction in its contribution from 60 percent of tax increment to 30 percent. That change would reduce the county's annual contribution to the RDA by approximately $67,500.
Howser said the Iron County School District had indicated preliminary willingness to discuss participation but its finance committee would not meet until August, which places any school district involvement outside the current property tax cycle. Howser added that if the School District ultimately agreed to participate at a 30 percent level with a base year set at the current year, the new increment revenue could more than offset the county's reduction.
Council Member Larry Freeberg moved to adopt Resolution No. 26-574 approving the interlocal agreement; Council Member Logan Cruz seconded. The motion carried on a recorded 5-0 vote: Mayor Clayton Calloway and Council Members Freeberg, Nyen, Tidwell and Cruz all voted yes.
The council then recessed and convened as the Brian Head Redevelopment Agency Board to adopt the companion resolution; the board approved the same resolution by a 5-0 vote.
