The Brian Head Town Council on May 12 adopted Resolution No. 26-574 approving an interlocal agreement to extend the Brian Head Redevelopment Agency (RDA) and its Community Development Project Area. Town Manager Bret Howser told the council that Iron County agreed to extend participation for ten more years but requested its contribution level be reduced from 60 percent of tax increment to 30 percent, a change with an approximate annual financial impact of $67,500 to the RDA. Howser said the County Commission approved its portion of the interlocal agreement earlier that morning.
Howser described the RDA as a strategic tool to attract commercial development, including a potential skier base village, and noted the town already holds land that could be used with a parking or infrastructure project tied to development. He also said if the school district ultimately agreed to participate at 30 percent of their tax increment with a current-year base year, the resulting new increment revenue could more than offset the county’s reduction.
Council Member Larry Freeberg moved to adopt Resolution No. 26-574; Council Member Logan Cruz seconded. The motion carried 5-0 (Mayor Clayton Calloway; Council Members Freeberg, Nyen, Tidwell, Cruz). The Council then recessed and convened as the Brian Head Redevelopment Agency Board, which adopted the companion resolution by the same vote.
