Spring-Ford Area SD honored for music program; students recognized for district and state honors

Spring-Ford Area School District received a national recognition on Tuesday when the NAM Foundation again named the district a Best Community for Music Education.
Mr. Kelly, an ambassador for the NAM Foundation, presented the district with a plaque and described the competitive review process conducted by the University of Kansas. "We congratulate you, Springford Area School District, for outstanding support of music education, enriching the lives of children, and advancing student achievement," he said while presenting the award.
The board used the presentation to highlight recent student successes across band, orchestra and chorus. The district celebrated students who advanced to District 11 and region ensembles and noted that one student, Andrew Stein, made All-State orchestra for the first time in district history. Music staff also called out Connor Knap (clarinet) and district jazz band members Benjamin Lewis and Braden Roach, among others.
Joe Perry, a middle school choir director, recognized Yoshita Kunarupu and Grayson Dryberg for advancing to the competitive District 11 choir. "District 11 choir is one of the most competitive districts in the entire state," Perry said, noting the significance of those selections.
Emily McGran, orchestra director, invited her three students forward to receive certificates and reminded the board that select ensembles also performed at community events this year.
Why this matters: The recurring national recognition and student placements show continuity in the district's music offerings at elementary, middle and high school levels. District staff said the NAM designation evaluates programming, performance opportunities and budgetary support, and the board framed the award as both recognition of current work and encouragement to sustain music offerings.
The board proceeded to other business after the presentation; no public comment was recorded during the agenda-only public-comment period preceding the presentations.
