Administrators reviewed several policy updates placed on the agenda. Policy 221 (dress and grooming) was updated to include protections for cultural hairstyles and religious beliefs. Policy 236.1 (threat assessment) was revised to clarify which external agencies beyond the district and law enforcement should be contacted, explicitly naming juvenile justice, county agencies, healthcare providers and behavioral-service providers. Policy 332 (working periods) had the addition of a state-law reference but no substantive program change. Policy 619 (district audits) was amended to increase transparency and specify the annual financial-report submission to the department of education by Oct. 31.
Board members asked for specifics about charter-school monitoring. Administrators described the district's annual review practices (walkthroughs, spot checks of records, observations, meetings with charter administration and professional-learning walks) and said full comprehensive evaluations are performed in renewal years. They said Jarks' charter is due for renewal and that the district will present renewal materials on the June agenda. The administrators also explained that enrollment caps for charters are set in the charter application and usually remain fixed unless mutually changed during renewal, giving examples of phased grade additions as the usual mechanism to change capacity.
The committee did not take a final action on policies at this meeting; the items were presented for review and for placement on upcoming meeting agendas.
