Board members press food-service vendor quality and inventory tracking as contract nears re-bid

A board member expressed pointed concerns about the current food-service management, saying: "I'm just not impressed with their mark for our kids... in some cases you can't even identify what it is." The director asked whether the problem stems from vendor organization or building-level staff and urged a thorough review during next year's bidding process; the speaker said the contract will be up for bid next year.
Vice President Wils and other administrators acknowledged limitations that food-service directors face and defended the vendor's work in getting through the school year; they said the contract will be re-bid in the fifth year. The board raised additional questions about how commodities are documented and who serves as the gatekeeper for inventory, noting inconsistent answers in previous conversations and requesting follow-up clarification.
The committee did not take a formal vote on food-service contracts at the meeting; administrators and directors indicated the renewal/bid process will be reviewed before next year.
