York City SD superintendent reports enrollment at 6,263, confirms May 28 graduation and attendance-policy changes

Brown outlined several summer offerings and dates, including high-school summer school (June 10'July 23), Bearcat Cyber (June 8'July 24), a rising-9th-grade program (June 10'July 16) and ESY/early-childhood sessions (June 22'July 16), noting locations will be concentrated so cleaning crews can focus on buildings in use.
On academic progress and pathways, Brown said that as of April 30 there were no students labeled as having 'no progress' in pathways work and that 99% of students had complete pathways work; he said roughly 8% of students have one course failure and about 9% have two or more. He added that students who are behind received color-coded letters (red, yellow, green) and individualized plans including schedule adjustments and Saturday school.
Brown described a change to attendance/tardy accounting under the new TX1 thresholds: for K'8 the TX1 threshold is 390 minutes and for grades 9'12 it is 420 minutes; once a student meets that threshold it is recorded as one unexcused absence. He reported district attendance improved in April from about 90% (24'5) to roughly 92.5% (25'6). "All the students that have either a course failure, more than one course failure or incomplete progress in their pathways have received the colored letter," Brown said.
The superintendent also provided Graduation Alliance metrics (44 credits earned, one graduate and 39 enrollments) and reiterated that parts of the proposed budget rely on three funding streams'Ready to Learn (contingent on receiving funds), the General Fund and Access funding.
The committee was given multiple calendar reminders including May 19 (no school for students/10-month employees), the May 20 board meeting, May 25 (district holiday) and June 2 (last day of school, noon dismissal). The public portion of the committee concluded with the board moving to executive session for personnel, real-estate and legal matters.
