Tyngsborough Commission on Disability: sidewalk mapping on track; ADA grant filing under way

At its June 8 meeting, the Tyngsborough Commission on Disability was told the vendor carrying out the town's sidewalk-mapping grant is on schedule to finish by the end of the fiscal year, and members said they expect to submit an ADA Improvement Grant by the coming Friday.

The timeline for the sidewalk-mapping project includes on-site video capture that staff plan to integrate into an online dashboard; once the vendor invoices the town the commission expects to file for reimbursement from the Massachusetts Office on Disability. Commission members agreed a fuller review of the mapping results is likely at their August meeting once the vendor product and dashboard are available.

The commission also reviewed elements of the ADA Improvement Grant request. Commission members said recreation staff, led by Recreation Director Alison Page, have already been working on installing communication boards at several parks, including Wickacy and Bridgemeadow Fields, and that recreation's operating budget will cover most near-term work. The commission discussed the possibility of supplementing those efforts later if additional funding is needed.

Separately, the panel discussed the commission's role in coordinating accessibility projects across town departments and agreed that a short letter thanking recreation for its initiative should be drafted by Assistant Town Manager Sean Walsh for the chair's signature. The commission will place more detailed consideration of accessibility memos and implementation priorities on the July or August agenda for further public review.

What happens next: staff expect the sidewalk-mapping vendor to complete its deliverables by late June and to submit an invoice that will trigger a reimbursement request; the commission plans a status review of mapping and grant outcomes at a future meeting, most likely in August.
