Data director: district shows post‑pandemic gains, math strongest area of growth

Superintendent Kim Beckenall and Director Kevin Griffin told trustees the district has seen measurable academic growth since the pandemic and presented IRI and ISAT proficiency and cohort data that district leaders will use as a baseline moving forward.
Beckenall said researchers at the Harvard Graduate School of Education included Kuna among districts showing rising achievement since the pandemic and highlighted the work of local teachers and administrators. "I think that is really something to celebrate for KUNA," she said, noting data in trustees' packets show rising math and reading measures since the pandemic.
Director Kevin Griffin reviewed the IRI (a newly formatted oral component this year) and ISAT cohort analyses. He cautioned that the IRI’s different format means this year should be treated as a baseline; nonetheless, he pointed to notable growth in math and mixed results in ELA, where some grade cohorts showed stagnation or declines. Griffin identified the 5th/6th grade transition as a data red flag in math and ELA and said principals and PLC teams will dig into the causes next year.
Trustees and staff discussed how classroom practice, assessment proctoring and student buy‑in may affect results. Griffin said the district will continue a continuous improvement plan and return with comparative data when state data cleaning is complete.
