County explores senior bus contract; veteransmemorial and brick fundraiser advance

Amanda, a county senior-services staff member, updated the County Services Committee on several programs for older residents and veterans. She said the healthcare consortium offered to operate the county'senior bus using the county's vehicles under a proposed three-month arrangement that would cost about $14,000 and run three days a week; the county currently had roughly 26 consistent riders and identified about five seniors who could not access GCT routes without additional pick-up options.
"They were able to connect out of the 26 about 21 of them that were either on a route or able to pick up the dialer ride," Amanda said, explaining that most regular riders can be served by existing GCT routes but that a few would need targeted pickup. Amanda said the consortium's contract language might appear on the healthcare consortium agenda next month and that providing the service via partners could break even or save county funds compared with operating an independent route.
On veterans programming, staff described a bricks fundraising campaign and a preliminary memorial design with a stone wall listing VA-recognized wartime eras. Tyler said the project had sold about $25,000 worth of bricks and that the plan calls for reusing leftover sandstone from the justice center project. Committee members discussed flagpole size, floodplain constraints at the site and design proportions; staff said they would circulate a preliminary image and vendor quotes when available.
Amanda also recounted a brief, unplanned visit by the lieutenant governor, saying it was "benign" and that the lieutenant governor had not contributed money to the facility.
Ending: Staff said contract documents and a memorial design sample will be circulated to the committee; the proposed senior-bus arrangement and any formal contract are expected to appear on a future agenda for consideration.
