Chickasaw County awards Twin Ponds earthwork and storage-building contracts

The Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors on June 8 awarded separate contracts for earthwork and a metal storage building at the Twin Ponds Nature Center after opening ten sealed bids.

County conservation director Chad Humple opened the bids and identified the lowest responsible bidders for each scope. "The low quotes... Zimmerman digging at 36,178.75 and Riverside Metal Roofing LLC for the building 101,605.35," Humple said as he read the bid tabulation. Supervisors then moved and voted to award the earthwork contract to Zimmerman Digging and the building contract to Riverside Metal Roofing LLC; both motions carried by voice vote.

The board discussed keeping the earthwork and building awards separate so a single objection to one contractor would not hold up the other contract. Supervisors also approved paying for both projects from county betterment funds in fiscal year 26-27, with spending effective after July 1.

Humple told the board the projects were ready to proceed once contracts and bonds were in place and estimated that, weather permitting, contractors could start in mid July. He said site prep had already removed trees and ground stumps so work could begin promptly.

The board directed staff to prepare contracts, obtain required 100% bonds, and return signed documents for execution. No formal schedule beyond a likely mid-July start was adopted; supervisors emphasized the need to stay within budgeted amounts.

Next steps: staff will finalize contract paperwork and return with signed agreements and bonding information for the files.
