Steve, a trustee, explained the village's ongoing negotiations to renew its cable franchise with Altice/Cablevision. Under the draft terms discussed, the village would continue to receive 5% of gross revenues as a franchise fee and would receive PEG (public-access) funding at $0.65 per subscription in the village.
Steve said the proposed renewal's terms are substantially similar to the prior agreement and that the town and village have been negotiating with the same legal counsel; he noted the public hearing is a federal requirement and that the agreement will be posted for review prior to the hearing.
Trustees scheduled a public hearing for Nov. 24 to receive public comment and review the posted draft agreement.
Next steps: staff will post the draft franchise agreement and supporting materials ahead of the Nov. 24 public hearing required by federal franchise rules.
