Public commenters urged the board to move forward: Britney Ross Berlin (S8) and Alexis Capessa (S9) said the playground attracts families and supports local businesses, and Randy Rebenos (S10), chair of Parks & Recreation, said the equipment is aging and the department supports improvements. In response, S11 explained the village’s approach: staff proposed phased improvements because the village does not have funding to replace the entire playground at once and had been denied a grant. S11 said staff will continue seeking grants and hopes to complete the full playground within three years if funding is secured.
Trustees discussed choosing the middle option (Option 2), which S11 and Parks & Rec recommended as ADA‑compliant and appropriate for initial installation; the board moved to approve Option 2 and the motion passed by voice vote. S2 said, if approved, the equipment could be installed by spring.
The approval commits funding for Phase 1 and instructs staff to proceed with procurement and scheduling; the board noted it will continue to pursue grants to fund subsequent phases.
