Kenmore honors Deputy City Manager Stephanie Lukasz; KWAC reports growth in waterfront programs

Kenmore City Council recognized Deputy City Manager Stephanie Lukasz on Tuesday for five years of service to the city; staff and councilors praised her leadership on business outreach, distribution of federal COVID funds and regional crisis-response partnerships. Stephanie Lukasz told the council she is honored and that public service is "a calling." She will start as city administrator for the City of Edmonds.
Marita Colburn, the city’s recreation program supervisor, introduced Sherry Baker, president of the Kenmore Waterfront Activities Center (KWAC), who presented KWAC’s annual report. Baker said KWAC — a DBA of the North Shore Canoe and Kayak Club established in 2013 — has expanded activities including a waterfront fair that grew from about 25–30 people to roughly 125 last year, scholarships that offer free first paddles, outreach to the Northwest Association of Blind Athletes, youth paddling programs and plans for a July summer camp mixing dragon boat, outrigger and kayak activities. She noted a King County Parks grant that helped the clubs purchase carbon-fiber paddles and said KWAC maintains a public boat-storage program and scholarship funding for participants.
Council members thanked Lukasz for her service and praised KWAC volunteers and their community outreach. The council then moved on to public hearings and other agenda items.
