The Village of Wellington authorized its attorney on March 24 to file a complaint and pursue acquisition of property owned by the Grand Isles Master Homeowners Association so the village can construct a roundabout at the intersection of Lake Worth Road and 120th Avenue South.
The attorney told council that the village had negotiated with the homeowners association and that filing a complaint and conducting a taking (including settlement or condemnation as necessary) is the most expedient and cost‑effective method to secure the property needed for the public‑works project.
A council motion to authorize the attorney was made, seconded and approved. Council members described prior robust discussions with the homeowners association and supported moving forward to clear the right‑of‑way so the roundabout design and construction can proceed.
Staff said the authorization follows terms discussed at the prior agenda review and that the next step is to file the complaint consistent with the terms reviewed by council.
